MacOSX – Change Default Save Location of Screenshots

To help keep your Mac OSX desktop tidy, you may want to move your screenshots to a custom folder.

Create a folder called Screenshots (or any name you like) in your desired location. For this article I am going to create Screenshots folder on the Desktop.

Fire up a Terminal window and enter the following command:

defaults write com.apple.screencapture location /Users/<username>/Desktop/Screenshots

You will then need to restart SystemUIServer to make the system aware of the change you just made.

killall SystemUIServer

Done! Next time you take a screenshot, your desktop will still be clutter free and all your screenshots will be placed in the Screenshots folder.
